The EOWPVT-4 was co-normed with the Receptive One Word Picture Vocabulary Test - 4th Edition (ROWPVT-4). Administering both tests provides a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s expressive and receptive vocabulary.
The purpose of the EOWPVT-4 is to measure an individual’s ability to name objects, actions, or concepts when presented through full-color pictures. The test measures an individual’s total acquired vocabulary, and is not an assessment of his or her language proficiency.
Components of the EOWPVT-4
The EOWPVT-4 consists of record forms, picture test plates, and an examiner’s manual. The test is available in English or Spanish-Bilingual.
The picture test plate is a standing easel that covers various semantic categories, such as animals, objects, people, activities, and concepts.
The scoring manual describes test protocols and procedures. It also contains norms that can be used to convert the client’s raw score to a standard score, age equivalent, and percentile rank.
These scores are reported on the score summary section of the record form. Administration guidelines for the EOWPVT-4
How to score the receptive one-word picture vocabulary test?
To begin administering the EOWPVT-4, the examiner presents the example test items to familiarize the client with the testing procedures. The examiner identifies the test item to be the starting point by matching the ages listed on the record form to the client’s age.
The examiner then continues to present a series of full-color illustrations, and the client is asked to name each illustration, typically with just one word. The examiner follows the guidelines for achieving a basal and ceiling score. Once the client reaches a ceiling, administration is discontinued.
The EOWPVT-4 is untimed and can be administered in approximately 20 minutes. Scoring the assessment using the examiner’s manual is simple, and can be done in less than 5 minutes in general.
